Is this legal or tax advice?Open this section ↓Close ↑
Is this legal or tax advice?
No. This workbook lists steps and official contacts. It does not interpret a will or give tax or legal advice. It tells you what to do, where and by when, in the official pages' own words, and links each step to the page it comes from. For a question about the will, the estate or the taxes themselves, ask a professional.
What does it keep about the person who died, and for how long?
Only what the steps and letters need: their full name, date of death, province and last address; your own name and contact details; the names of the institutions you list; your answers, your task progress and your notes. The workbook never asks for or keeps a SIN, a date of birth, a place of death, a health card, licence or passport number, or an account number. The letters leave a line for each one, to write in by hand. You can delete the workbook at any time, and everything in it is gone within 24 hours. If nobody opens it for 24 months it is deleted automatically, and we email you at 23 months first.
How do I sign in?
With your email address. There is no password: we email you a link each time you sign in, and only someone who can open that email can open the workbook.
Does it send the letters for me?
No. It prints them ready to send, with blank lines for the numbers the workbook never keeps. You fill those in by hand, sign the letter and send it yourself, then mark it sent so the workbook remembers.
Can I use it in Quebec?
Not yet. In Quebec the person settling an estate is a liquidator under a different set of rules, and the workbook has not been researched for them. The free Quebec section of the executor guide is still available.
