Alberta-specific things to know
- •Alberta is the only province with no provincial sales tax on private vehicle sales. The buyer pays no PST at transfer, a significant advantage over most provinces.
- •File the Notice of Disposition as soon as the sale is complete. Without it, photo-radar tickets and civil liability can still come back to you.
- •A witness signature on the bill of sale is optional but recommended; it strengthens the document if a dispute arises.
- •Alberta sets no fixed "register within X days" deadline for buyers, but a vehicle on a public road must have valid registration and insurance, so the buyer must register it (with insurance) before driving it.
