The standard transfer process in Alberta
Open this section ↓- 1Complete the bill of sale: include date, sale price, odometer, VIN, year/make/model, and full names and addresses of both parties. A witness signature is optional but recommended.
- 2Sign the Transfer of Ownership section on the back of the registration certificate.
- 3File a Notice of Disposition at any Alberta registry agent. This removes your name from the registration and protects you from any tickets or liability after the sale.
- 4Remove your licence plates. They belong to the registered owner, not the vehicle.
- 5The buyer takes the signed registration + bill of sale to an Alberta registry agent to complete the transfer.
