Testing is typically waived when exchanging a same-class Canadian licence.

Coverage begins on the first day of the third month following the date you established residency in Alberta. During the gap you can continue using your health card from your previous province or territory when accessing health services.

What to bring to each appointment

Alberta asks you to bring:
- ✓surrender your valid provincial/territorial licence AND any other licences in your possession (including expired)
- ✓proof of Alberta residence
- ✓proof of legal status in Canada
- ✓proof of 2+ years driving experience if you want a full Class 5
No knowledge or road test is required for reciprocal jurisdictions.

AHCIP asks for supporting documents proving all three of:
- ✓Alberta residency
- ✓identity
- ✓legal entitlement to be in Canada
The page does not state how many documents are needed from each category. No charge for the service. If these supporting documents are not provided, your application cannot be processed.
