MPI Transfer of Ownership Document: what it is and how to fill it out

What it is — and who needs it
The TOD is the transfer section printed on the back of the Manitoba registration card. In a private sale the seller signs it over, and the buyer needs it — together with the bill of sale and the Certificate of Inspection (COI) — to transfer ownership at an MPI Service Centre. Manitoba requires the COI for private sales, so it isn't optional paperwork.
Common mistakes

- ✗Sellers skipping the Notice of Sale — the separate filing (online or in person) that removes your name from the registration

What happens after it's signed
Buyer: take the signed TOD, bill of sale, and COI to an MPI Service Centre to complete the transfer. Seller: submit your Notice of Sale to MPI (online or in person) and return your plates — plates stay with the seller in Manitoba. Field-level questions?
